May Lindstrom: The Blue Cocoon

Every so often a product comes along about which everyone raves and I always find myself thinking, 'Oh come on, it can't really be that good'. Something about the phrase 'holy grail' makes me suspicious and cynical. But there comes a time when you can no longer ignore the noise. I kept on hearing about the transformative powers of May Lindstrom's Blue Cocoon so had to try it. And it is as good as they said. Better, even.

The balm is best used as the final stage of your evening routine in place of moisturiser. I like to remove it from the pot with a spatula to prevent contamination and because the jelly-like substance transforms into an oil as soon as it comes into contact with the warmth of your skin, making it quite tricky to handle – it's too valuable (in every sense of the word...) to risk dropping it in the sink.

I massage a pea-sized amount into my face and neck for two minutes, then let it sink into my skin for half an hour before I head to bed. Its anti-microbial, anti-bacterial, anti-allergenic ingredients work as you sleep to leave skin calm, nourished and just a little bit plumper – particularly perfect for those with problematic, irritated or inflamed complexions, but suitable for all skin types. Think of it as a treatment rather than an every-day cleanser and the 1.8 oz jar will last for months.
