If you follow lots/any holistically-minded, health-conscious, high-vibing individuals on Instagram, the chances are that Sun Potion's distinctive cobalt blue glass jars will be a familiar sight.
Founders Scott Linde and Nitsa Citrine source organic or wild harvested plants, superfoods and tonic herbs from around the world and their commitment to sustainable, ethical, mindful practices has led to the Santa Barbara-based company becoming arguably the most prominent of its kind.
Curious to learn more about these transformational foods, I spoke to Scott about inspiring positive change in the world, living in joy and the healing powers of plants.
WHEN AND HOW DID YOU LEARN ABOUT MEDICINAL FOOD AND HERBS?
The Devas [intrinsic spirit] of plants are very real and available to experience and interact with. Daily consumption of a best-quality example of a healing and tonifying plant, paired with even the slightest availability of multidimensional experiences, will lead to a relationship with that plant's Deva. I experienced this connection to plants, prior to having the language to describe what was happening.
WHAT SHORT- AND LONG-TERM EFFECTS DID YOU NOTICE WHEN YOU STARTED INCORPORATING MORE PLANTS INTO YOUR DIET?
Superfoods are great for taking in concentrated nutrients. What I'm really into is Tonic Herbs, which are meant to be taken in small servings, daily, over a long period of time. These foods are incredibly fortifying and healing, and could be summarised as an easy way to feel great. Sun Potion is a collection of best-quality, bio-available and activating tonic herbs that support the body in some very tangible ways: interesting dreams, elevated mood, better immune response, healthy hormonal balance, aphrodisiac properties and the list goes on...
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START SUN POTION?
I have seen, in my own life, how these plants help an individual to achieve their all and offer their best to the world and I wanted to share that with others. The whole operation is about inspiring people to do their individual work to better change and influence the world. There are plenty of ways to change the world; having a lot of people showing up to do that makes the whole job easier for all of us.
HOW DO YOU KEEP YOU PRODUCTION AND PACKAGING PROCESSES ETHICAL AND SUSTAINABLE?
Our products conform to the highest level of FDA standards for good manufacturing processes, record-keeping, testing and accountability. These are foods that I eat myself. I want only the best. I do everything in my power to bring that standard to what Sun Potion offers. So far, I'm happy with the results.
WHAT HAS RUNNING YOUR OWN BUSINESS TAUGHT YOU ABOUT YOURSELF?
It's really a lot of learning about people. I have seen that I'm adaptable and can handle almost anything. Intuition directs my business, so it is important for me to take care of myself, stay rested, and listen to what my body is telling me. Most of all, operating a successful business has shown me that anything is possible when we offer the best products available.
YOUr FAVOURITE PRODUCT IN THE RANGE:
They are all really nice. My favourite Sun Potion herb is He Shou Wu because it is restorative and fortifying. I feel like that plant has seriously got my back.
WHAT'S NEXT FOR SUN POTION?
Everyone would benefit from having a little Sun Potion in their daily life. I have no doubt about that. We are just continuing to say 'yes' to those who are interested in having this experience for themselves. Lots of growth. Lots of really amazing herbs. I'm stoked to see how it all goes!
WHAT IS YOUR FOOD PHILOSOPHY?
I've been exposed to a lot of the food ideologies. They all have a certain value. Personally, I am a 'selectitarian', meaning I want the best possible food for every meal. If there is any animal involved, I have a new slogan: 'Has to be pasture-raised: beef, birds, bovine, and bees. Less of the best quality is always better than more of anything less.
WHAT DO YOU DO TO MAINTAIN YOUR HEALTH AND WELL-BEING?
Love, nice weather, service, sauna, keep the good around, generosity, prioritise the best, offer the best, living in joy.
WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY?
Showing up for life in the best way I am able.
