WHY DID YOU START THIS WEBSITE?

I don't like the way the food system works and how too many people make too much money from keeping people sick. 

BUT, LIKE, WHAT IS YOUR REAL JOB?

I am a freelance book-editor.

DO YOU EAT MEAT?

Nope.

WHY DON'T YOU EAT MEAT?

I believe animals are sentient, feeling beings that weren't put on this earth to sate my appetite. I spent my childhood up to my knees in poop on a small-holding, cuddling ponies, collecting eggs from chickens, watching the vet castrate bullocks, plucking pheasants (try saying that five times fast...) so I'm not exactly squeamish. I grew up eating meat but now that I'm better informed I can't square it with myself. Have you ever shaken a plastic bag near a group of chickens? They freak the eff out. There's no way they don't know what's coming.

Also, it's not all that healthy – just breathing the fumes of frying meat can give you lung cancer.

And meat production is disastrous for the environment.

DO YOU CARE IF OTHER PEOPLE EAT MEAT?

I'd rather my family didn't eat it because I don't want them to die from heart disease or get cancer or have a stroke but they're all grown-ups who can decide for themselves. Whatever anyone else wants to do is up to them; I'm not into food-shaming.

WHAT ABOUT FISH/DIARY/EGGS/HONEY?

I don't eat fish or eggs. I buy ethically harvested raw honey from a local beekeeper. I very occasionally eat cheese pizza but believe that if you're going to do something wrong, do it right – I make it myself, using organic mozzarella from pasture-raised cows.

WHEN DID YOU START EATING THIS WAY?

I was technically born vegetarian because my mother didn't eat any meat during pregnancy. We were served chicken and fish as children but I never had much of an appetite for either and gave up eating both when I was fifteen years old. I stopped eating dairy and eggs in 2011. 

DO YOU STILL EAT GLUTEN?

Yes.

WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR PROTEIN?

From nuts and seeds, legumes and leafy greens.

WHAT IS YOUR DAILY SKINCARE ROUTINE?

I use a cleanser, toner, serum and moisturiser in the morning and evening. I'll do a mask about three times a week.

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVOURITE BEAUTY PRODUCTS?

This changes all the time but I must give a special mention to Tata Harper, Uma, May Lindstrom and M.V Skincare – these ranges are consistently exceptional. Otherwise, I only review products I love so you can find some of them here.

WHAT MAKE-UP DO YOU USE?

I actually don't wear make-up 99% of the time. My skin is pretty good since I've learned to stop touching my face and as I get older I'm less bothered by what others think of my appearance. There's something quite nice about only wearing it on special occasions, though – people can really tell when you've made an effort. Also, most make-up contains toxic ingredients. 

TOXIC? SO DO I HAVE TO THROW OUT ALL MY MAKE-UP NOW? 

I wouldn't advocate that kind of waste. Use up what you have and then replace it with a clean alternative. Or just stop wearing it all together.

I use a Canon 660d with a 50mm-f/1.4 USM lens and an iPhone 5c.
